What is Ingress Protection Rating Used For?
The Ingress Protection (IP) rating system is an internationally recognized scale that relates to proven protection against environmental factors such as liquids and solids.
Ingress protection ratings can be identified by the letters IP, followed by two numbers. These numbers define the amount of protection an item has against specified elements and its ability to resist foreign matter that could otherwise get inside the product and cause it to fail. The first
number refers to the amount of protection an indicator enclosure has against solid matter (such as dust particles), while the second number defines the level of protection against liquids. The larger each digit is, the greater the protection.
What is IP69K?
The IP69K rating provides protection against ingress of dust and high temperature, high pressure water – making products with this certification ideal for use in conditions where equipment must be carefully sanitized. The IP69K Stainless Steel enclosure of our Brand New 2409 Series allows the

How is the water intrusion test performed?
The water intrusion tests themselves are done by placing the product on a turntable with a rotational speed of 5 ±1 revolutions per minute. The product is then sprayed at close range at a rate of approximately 4 gallons/16 liters per minute with water pressure of between 1160-1450 psi, at a temperature of 176°F/80°C.

The differences between IP65, IP67, IP68 & IP69K certified displays from Xenarc Technologies are slight, but very important. IP65 = Water resistant. “Protected against water jets from any angle” *Do NOT submerge IP65 touchscreens and LCD Monitors, as these are not fully waterproof.
IP67 = Water Proof. “Protected against the events of temporary/long term submersion (10 minutes or more)”*You can submerge IP67 displays for extended periods; our IP67 rated touchscreen and LCD monitor solutions can be submerged and come with IP67 rated power cords and connectors.
IP68 = Waterproof. “Protected against the events of permanent submersion up to 3 meters”
IP69K = The highest rating possibly achieved is IP69K. This superior IP rating suggests complete protection from dust and protection from steam-jet cleaning (water temperatures of -22F (-30C) to 158F (70C)). Some regulations, including IEC 60529, refer to the testing of IP69K as IPx9.
What IP Rating Will You Need?
If you don’t anticipate a harsh environment that is extremely dusty or wet then a lower IP rating would suffice.
Applications that involve a lot of dust, debris, or potential to be in contact with any solids or liquids will require IP ratings that are higher and adequate water resistance on the touchscreen or LCD monitor utilized.
